Participation Rules

There are two Divisions in the Grand Prix – Walking and Running. Within each of the Divisions, entrants will be accumulating Participation and Competition points at the events.

Participation Points: Runners and walkers receive one (1), two (2), or four (4) points at each event based on the distance of the event. Once an entrant accumulates 10 points each within their category, they are automatically eligible to attend and receive awards at the annual "Taking Strides Towards Better Health" Grand Prix banquet. All Grand Prix events are included in the participation points.

Competition Points: Runners and walkers will be awarded points for the top 10 overall male and female finishers at each event based upon the age category that was registered in the Grand Prix Series. Competition age category awards will be based off an individual's best 10 scores. Races marked with an asterisk (*) will NOT be given competition points. There will be two tiers of points depending on the difficulty of the race or the level of competition. The points are as follows:

Finish Order Tier 1 Points Tier 2 Points
1 100 200
2 90 180
3 80 160
4 70 140
5 60 120
6 50 100
7 40 80
8 30 60
9 20 40
10 10 20

Upon registering for the Grand Prix Series, entrants will select either the Walking or Running Division for the full series. The entrant will be placed into an age category based on their age as of 7/1/2013 to accumulate competition points. The age categories for both Divisions are as follows:

14 and under
15 - 19
20 - 29
30 - 39
40 - 49
50 - 59
60 - 69
70 and older

In order to win a Grand Prix award in competition, the competitor must have accumulated 10 participation points. An individual can win an award in both categories if they registered in both running and walking AND have 10 participation points in EACH category. In the event of a tie, the individual with the most overall competition points will be the winner.
